Now Trending: Kimonos

Over-sized kimono transformed into a stylish dress

If you’ve been looking for an easy, inexpensive, and hassle-free way to upgrade your otherwise blandish wardrobe then this just might be your lucky day! As you read on, sit back, relax, and take advantage of the first-hand knowledge I’m about to share with you on the ultimate fashion accessory perfect for any girl.

I recently came to the realization that not every girl loves to dress up on the regular like me. This reality-check came primarily due to my oldest daughter’s resistance to wearing a dress when we went shopping together. I’m learning to accept the reality that unlike her mama, she is a true jeans and t-shirt kinda gal. Truth be told, even a dressy girl like me hasn’t been in a dress up mood as much lately either. For the last few weeks I have been especially busy and wanting stylish ease. Can anyone relate?

Enter the fashion piece that offers ease, versatility, and fun (and it’s definitely not a dress unless of course you want it to be)! Kimonos have been a favorite of mine since I bought my first one several years ago. Before then, I never wore leggings or jeggings out of the house. I had this self-conscious thing about showing my hips and butt, consequently sacrificing my comfort on a regular basis. Yet when I tried on my first kimono with leggings/jeggings, I felt instantly confident and comfortable at the same time. After that I was completely sold on kimonos and they became a staple in my wardrobe. Since then my kimono collection has consistently grown and is now up to more than 20! As you can see in the photo above kimonos also look great with a cute pair of jeans. I think it goes without saying (but I’ll say it anyway), trendy girls seriously love and appreciate all kinds of accessories. Kimonos are the ultimate accessory as far as I’m concerned. They can easily be dressed down with a cute pair of ripped jeans or dressed up with just about anything else.  Admittedly, most kimonos come in floral prints but more and more designers are starting to realize that not every girl is into florals like that. As of late I’ve been seeing kimonos available in stripes, plaids, geometrics, solids, and animal prints. I even managed to find a velvet burnout kimono (see photo below).

Check out my top 5 reasons to fall in love with kimonos.

  1.  They’re super versatile.  I’ve paired them with tunic dresses, jeans, denim skirts, sundresses, and maxi skirts.
  2. Kimonos are a great way to add flair and style to any basic pieces (i.e. tank top and t-shirts.)
  3. They look great on ALL body types.
  4.  The variety of prints, fabrics, and lengths make kimonos perfect to wear year-round.
  5. Simply stated, kimonos are THE ultimate fun accessory to change up your fashion game.

If you’re still on the fence about trying kimonos, consider this final factor, the affordability.  The majority of my kimonos pictured, were less than $20 dollars!  So I guess what I’m saying is that the decision to give them a try should be a no-brainer.
